Aston Villa have agreed ‘another big signing’ after Diego Carlos reveal – pundit
Aston Villa will be able to push for a top-seven finish next season following the signing of Diego Carlos.
That’s according to former Villains hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Steven Gerrard’s latest signing.
On Thursday (26 May) Villa confirmed the capture of Carlos, 29, from Sevilla with Sky Sports reporting the fee is around £26million.
The defender has racked up 25 appearances in Europe with Sevilla in both the Champions League and Europa League.
McAvennie insists the Villains can target a return to Europe next season after another “big” signing.
“It’s another big signing from Villa,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It was needed because their season was a big disappointment. I think the spending is going to continue.
“Villa are going for it next season, they have to with the money they have. I’m excited for them, I have to say.
“It will be interesting. I think they will be fighting the likes of West Ham and Newcastle for a European place next year.
“That’s why they have signed this Carlos. He has that experience and he makes that defence a whole lot better in my opinion.
“It was a poor season and I think the three signings they have made will push them on and higher up the league.”

Aston Villa have already been active in the transfer market ahead of next season, turning Philippe Coutinho’s loan spell into a permanent move and signing French midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer.
Villa finished 14th in the 2021-22 Premier League.
In other news, Aston Villa want an A-list striker and are willing to sell Danny Ings to fund the deal.
