Aston Villa injury update: This is how long key man could be sidelined for – report
By Amir Mir
Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan could be sidelined for up to five weeks, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail claim that if scan results reveal that the 24-year-old’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared then he could make a return within four-to-five weeks.
Hogan was stretched off during Villa’s 2-0 defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Monday night – he has already suffered two career threatening injuries.
After the defeat, Villa manager Steve Bruce expressed his worry about the injury suffered to the club’s £12million January signing given his past record.
It is said the scan results of Hogan’s injury are expected in the next 24 hours as he will definitely miss the club’s next two matches.
Villa take on Derby County on Saturday afternoon in front of their own supporters, before fellow strugglers Bristol City visit the Midlands three days later.
Furthermore, the games against Rotherham, Huddersfield, and Sheffield Wednesday could also come too soon as Hogan waits for the swelling to cool down before determining the severity of his injury.
During his short time at the club, Hogan has suffered four defeats in four games as he is yet to get off the mark with a goal.
Hogan’s strike partner Jonathan Kodjia was also injured during the last game as Bruce has no recognised forward at the club.
Gabby Agbonlahor is out injured, while target-man Libor Kozak, who has not featured under Bruce, will miss the rest of the season through his own injury problems.
This could leave Bruce fielding one of the youngsters during the next few matches, with academy duo Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Keinan Davis featuring regularly in the 18 man matchday squads.
