Aston Villa may sell Douglas Luiz after £30m reveal – Agbonlahor

Aston Villa may sell Douglas Luiz if they pursue a deal for Conor Gallagher, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Luiz will struggle for game time in 2022-23 even if Gallagher does not sign.

Fabrizio Romano told CBS Sport’s ¡Qué Golazo! podcast on Monday (27 June) that Steven Gerrard “loves” the 22-year-old and “rates him highly”.

He also claimed Thomas Tuchel wants to take a closer look at the midfielder in pre-season before making a decision on his future.

Birmingham Live reported last week (20 June) that the Blues currently value him at £30million.

“Conor Gallagher is a great player, a top player,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He made his debut for England last season, great energy in the middle of the park, he’s definitely a player that Villa are aware of and will want to get.

“Will they have two many midfielders? Maybe. Douglas Luiz, I don’t see him starting next season. You have [Marvelous] Nakamba, [Boubacar] Kamara, [John] McGinn, [Jacob] Ramsey in front of him.

“Gallagher would be a great player that Villa can bring to add even more legs, more goalscoring ability from the midfielder.

“If Villa are keen on Gallagher then it spells the end for Douglas Luiz. He’s done Ok for Aston Villa but if they are going to try and break into Europe then he probably doesn’t think he’s up to speed.”

Gallagher has spent the last two seasons on loan at West Brom and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The six-cap international is yet to make his senior Chelsea bow and has three years left on his Stamford Bridge contract.

In other news, Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for a ‘whinging’ star.
