Aston Villa news: ‘Alarm bells ringing’ after ‘very surprising’ John McGinn update – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted a number of Premier League clubs will be on high alert with Aston Villa willing to listen to offers for star midfielder John McGinn.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old’s work rate is unmatched by anyone at Villa Park.
Football Insider revealed last week (20 June) that Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for McGinn this summer.

It is understood that Steven Gerrard is not totally convinced by the Scotland international and will consider top-tier offers – with the midfield star out of contract in June 2025.
According to The Telegraph (18 May), McGinn is being targeted by Tottenham ahead of the summer window.
Whelan insisted Gerrard’s stance is “very surprising”.
“I didn’t think it would be McGinn that would be the one to leave,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s a smashing player and he’s been looked at by top clubs.
“McGinn has been excellent for Aston Villa. He brings energy, tenacity, creativity, and goals – his work rate is unlike anyone else at Villa.
“I am very surprised to hear that Gerrard maybe regards him as surplus to requirements. Alarm bells are going to be ringing for a lot of Premier League sides now when they hear that news.”

McGinn made 36 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa during the 2021-22 campaign.
The Midlands giants have already added midfielders Boubacar Kamara and Philippe Coutinho this summer.
In other news, pundit claims Aston Villa fans have been hit by a “crippling” blow after confirmed news.
