Aston Villa news: Morgan Sanson told to ‘move’ after source’s transfer reveal – Hutton

Alan Hutton has insisted Morgan Sanson needs to leave Aston Villa this summer for the good of his career.

The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he has been seriously disappointed with the 27-year-old’s “strange” spell in the Midlands.

As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday (2 April), Aston Villa will tell Sanson he can find a new club this summer.

A Villa source told this site Steven Gerrard has made his mind up on the midfielder as he plots an overhaul of his squad.

Sanson joined in 2021 and is contracted until 2025.

Hutton suggested injuries and a lack of regular game time have led to the Frenchman falling down the pecking order at VIlla Park.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s been in a situation where it’s been difficult. Niggly injuries, different things, not being picked, a change of manager.

“It’s not like a switch. You can’t just switch it on and you’re back 100 per cent fit. It takes time, you need to build up to that when you’re an injured player coming back. You need time to get back into your stride.

“He’s just not really been given that. He has played bits and pieces but it’s a strange one. I just haven’t seen enough.

“It can be hard for a player but it hasn’t worked. I was excited about it at the start. I’m still sitting here thinking I’ve not seen enough.

“I understand he’s been given opportunities, but within those opportunities, I just don’t feel that I’ve seen enough to warrant regular game time.

“We’ve not seen enough to see him making a difference in this team moving forward. Sometimes it doesn’t work out at a club. It’s just about saying it’s time to move on, get back playing and back to doing what you do best.

“I think he’s in that situation at this moment in time. He needs a change.”
