Aston Villa news: Phillips ‘100 per cent’ sure on Danny Ings amid exit report
Kevin Phillips has claimed Danny Ings’ form in front of goal is “far from ideal” for Aston Villa.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner is “100 per cent” sure that the 29-year-old will bounce back if Steven Gerrard stick with him.
Ings squandered a number of great opportunities on Saturday as Villa slipped to a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham.
The £25million summer signing has scored just once in his last 11 appearances across all competitions.
According to the Mirror (9 April), Villa could offer Ings as part of a swap deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Ings’ form, Phillips said: “It is hard because when you’re a forward you get judge on scoring goals.
“When you miss chances it is always highlighted in the Premier League.
“But Danny Ings has shown in his career that he will score goals if given a consistent run of games. He doesn’t look like he has his match sharpness to me.
“It is far from ideal but the player has quality. If Steven Gerrard plays him for the next seven games he will score, 100 per cent. It is just a matter of time.

“He never gives up. He always keeps going and has great attitude.
“All strikers live on confidence. His will have dipped a little bit. I expect him to bounce back though.”
