Aston Villa news: Stefan Borson predicts Jhon Duran punishment after controversy
Aston Villa are likely to fine Jhon Duran for his gesture on social media if he isn’t sold before the transfer deadline.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he expects Villa to take a hard line on the incident as they continue to push for their asking price in the negotiations with West Ham.
The Athletic reported on 27 July the West Midlands giants are investigating the Colombia international’s actions after he appeared to cross his arms to make an Irons-shaped gesture on social media.
The two Premier League clubs have recently been locked in negotiations over a fee for Duran as he looks to secure a move away from Villa Park.
But Football Insider revealed on 31 July they are still far apart in their valuations of the 20-year-old as Villa are looking for a fee in the region of £40million.

Borson believes Duran will still leave the club before the transfer deadline on 30 August as it would be difficult for him to rebuild his relationship with the fans.
“I would imagine that he will be fined unless he’s sold,” Borson told Football Insider.
“If he’s sold, then clearly they will just wrap it all up in the deal and they will take a view on it.
“But those sorts of gestures have an impact because it’s a negotiation.
“We all know the way these things work in terms of negotiation. West Ham will try and leverage it.
“But Villa will probably take quite a hard line on it.
“Ultimately, the player is going to go. It’s going to be very hard for him to reintegrate, particularly with the fans.
“He’s had people trying to get him out of Villa all summer and they are prepared to sell.
“I don’t know where he will end up, but I suspect he will leave.”
