Aston Villa ready to agree Douglas Luiz deal as talks to open – sources

Aston Villa are ready to open talks with Arsenal and Man City target Douglas Luiz over a new contract this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (16 April) that Arsenal remain interested in Luiz ahead of the off-season, while City also have a strong interest going into the main transfer window.

The Londoners have had numerous bids for the Brazil international, 25, rejected in recent windows.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Villa have “an opportunity” to renew Luiz’s deal at the club this summer – which is currently set to expire in June 2026.

It is believed talks will open following the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign over a big-money new contract.

Sources say a deal could be agreed quickly if Villa are willing to meet Luiz’s demands – with potential Champions League qualification set to play a huge part in persuading him to pledge his future.

The former Man City star, who is also wanted by Barcelona, will be able to ask for a huge wage increase due to his increased importance to the side and his status as a regular Brazil international.

Luiz has made 40 starts in 46 appearances across all competitions this term, notching 10 goals and 10 assists.

He signed his last contract extension at Villa Park in October 2022.
