Aston Villa ready to complete multiple late signings after ‘agreement’ reached
Aston Villa will be able to agree permanent signings after Jhon Duran completes his move to Al-Nassr, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (31 January) the Premier League side are set to land significantly more than the initial £64million fee for the Colombia international with a full agreement now in place.
The 21-year-old, who joined Villa from Chicago Fire for £18million in January 2023, underwent a medical in London on Thursday (30 January) ahead of his move to the Saudi Pro League club.
Unai Emery’s side were close to the profit and sustainability (PSR) limit last season, with top-flight clubs only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman were all sold ahead of the 30 June accounting deadline to ensure the club didn’t break the spending rules.
The West Midlands giants are believed to be close to the PSR limit again this season as they continue to battle against the spending restrictions.
They have sold Jaden Philogene and Diego Carlos to Ipswich Town and Fenerbahce for a combined £30million in this window, while Donyell Malen joined the club for £20million from Borussia Dortmund.
Sources have told Football Insider the big-money sale of Duran will resolve Villa’s PSR issues and allow them to sign players before the transfer deadline on 3 February.
Aston Villa exploring Chelsea moves after talks held
Football Insider revealed on 26 January Villa are exploring a loan move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as Emery looks to add to his defensive options.
The club are also understood to have held talks about signing his Stamford Bridge teammate Joao Felix.
But if they were to sign the Chelsea duo over the coming days, at least one of those deals would have to be on a permanent basis as the Premier League rules prevent clubs from having more than one player on loan from a fellow top-flight side.
Former Villa chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider the club will step up their efforts to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha once Duran’s move is finalised.

Villa Park chiefs have been fending off interest in Ollie Watkins over the past few days after turning down a bid in the region of £60million from Arsenal.
The England international remains a key part of Emery’s plans after registering 11 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances this season.
