Aston Villa set to benefit from ‘revenue increase’ after announcement – Robinson

Aston Villa will be able to “better their team” by expanding Villa Park, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the club are right to invest in their stadium as “it will bring in more revenue.”

On Tuesday (28 June), Villa announced their intentions to add 7,000 more seats to Villa Park while also upgrading the surrounding site.

According to The Sun (28 June), the possibility of hosting matches at the UK-staged European Championships in 2028 was a key factor behind the club’s decision.

Robinson spoke fondly about his memories of Villa Park hosting the FA Cup semi-finals prior to 2008.

“Villa are a huge football club,” he told Football Insider.

“They could fill a £50,000 seater stadium on a regular basis.

“It was one of my favourite stadiums to play in. It used to hold the FA Cup semi-finals. It is a great stadium.

“Under Steven Gerrard they seem to be heading in the right direction. There is investment on and off the field.

“If they expand the stadium it will bring in more revenue and that will only better the team in the long-run. Villa seem to be in a good place at the moment.

“This is the time where a team should grow. Villa are showing signs that they are going to do that.”

In other news, Aston Villa have been told a ‘very sizeable bid’ would be needed to sign Joe Gomez this summer after £30m report.
