By Danny Wright

Steve Bruce will be relieved to know that Scott Hogan will be able to return to action in time for Aston Villa’s pre-season plans, according to a report.

The Birmingham Mail claims that the striker underwent a scan after picking up an ankle injury in Villa’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Sunday.

It is understood that many feared the worst for the £15million January purchase and that he could have missed the entirity of the summer.

However it has since been revealed that there is no damage to any ligaments or bones and that Hogan will only have to rest up for a period after suffering a twisted ankle.

The 25-year-old has suffered with an ankle problem ever since arriving at Villa Park from Brentford in the winter.

He’s only managed to score one goal in the claret and blue in 13 appearances having scored 14 goal for Brentford in the first half of the season.

The Birmingham Mail reports that Hogan will be ready to return to action in early July and Villa kick off their pre-season plans against both Telford and Kidderminster at the same time on July 12, which will prove to be a great boost to Bruce.

Shrewsbury, Walsall and Watford have also been lined up to take part in friendly matches with Bruce’s men.
