‘Aston Villa to use pre-30 June swap transfers again after Marcus Rashford deal’

Aston Villa look set for another summer transfer “swap shop” once they sign Man United star Marcus Rashford, says Stefan Borson.

The Villains are set to gain a £70million “windfall”, from their Champions League participations, Borson exclusively told Football Insider.

But that isn’t thought to be nearly enough to see Villa be compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Villa have been active in the January transfer window, signing Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund, Andres Garcia from Levante, and now a reported deal for Rashford on-loan.

These deals now mean that, despite the Champions League prize money, Villa may need more sets of offsetting deals to balance their books, as they did last summer.

Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman were sold to Everton and Chelsea respectively just before the 30 June accounting deadline, at the same time as Lewis Dobbin and Ian Maatsen arrived at Villa Park, as teams looked to exchange their talent for fees which could be immediately recorded on the accounts.

Borson posted on X, giving his analysis of Villa’s current financial position, and believes that the Midlands club may have to make similar deals to last summer.

One fan then asked if Villa were still in trouble even with the sale of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr, to which Borson simply responded: “Yes.”

Aston Villa make a push for Champions League again with shock Man United move

Football Insider Verdict

Following an astonishingly good season from the Villains last year, the Midlands club were able to secure Champions League qualification.

This season has been more of a struggle, as the club sit eighth in the table, four points behind Man City in fourth.

The move for Rashford though, signals the intent of the club to make another push for qualification to Europe’s most prestigious competition.

However, both moves for Malen and Rashford come with significant risks. Rashford has been dropped by current boss Ruben Amorim, and the England international has only scored four times in the league this season.

Malen, whilst supremely talented, blew hot and cold during his time at Dortmund, and was especially disappointing before his transfer to Villa.

The Villa board have placed a great deal of faith in manager, Unai Emery, to get the best out of two inconsistent players.
