Bale tipped for Tottenham U-turn after what he said to Sky – pundit

Gareth Bale could perform a u-turn on his Tottenham future if he enjoys a strong end to the season.

That’s according to former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Bale’s future.

In March, Bale made it clear he would return to Real Madrid once his loan spell at Tottenham expires.

He said, “My plan is to go back, that’s as far I have planned.” [Sky Sports]

Bale’s Madrid contract expires next summer and could leave the club for nothing if a new deal is not agreed.

After an impressive performance against Sheffield United, in which he scored a hattrick, McAvennie claims Bale could change his mind if he enjoys the last few weeks of the season.

Though he admitted not having a permanent manager may put Bale off signing.

“Gareth Bale, he’s a wonderful talent,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You have to give him that freedom. He did have good games under [Jose] Mourinho though, it’s not like he was awful.

“Again, there’s a new manager coming in so I doubt anything will be decided until that new guy comes in.

“I know he’s said he’ll go back to Madrid but things can change in football. If he has another good few games it might change.

“But if it gets to the summer and there’s no manager there, how can you make that decision?”

Bale has scored nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season.

He also has goals in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League this season after some fine personal displays.
