Behind him in the pecking order: The Aston Villa sensation that is outperforming Jack Grealish

COMMENT by Amir Mir

At the start of the season, Jack Grealish saw an Aston Villa dream become a reality when he scored his first goal in front of the Holte End against Rotherham.

Boyhood Villa fan Grealish was the first name on the teamsheet during that 3-0 win in August, ahead of fellow academy product Andre Green who came on as a late substitute.

Grealish started the four matches that followed, while Green played only 29 minutes of football for then-manager Roberto Di Matteo amongst his regular appearances for the under-21 side.

However, fast forward to March and it is Grealish who finds himself behind Green in the pecking order after a number of dazzling displays from the Villa Park sensation.

Green has started the last two matches for the Midlands club, both much-needed wins against Derby and Bristol City, while Grealish was rooted to the substitutes bench.

Those starts have been warranted for the 18-year-old because of the impact he has had on Steve Bruce’s side following a number of costly defeats for the club.

He produced a man of the match display against Bristol City on Tuesday night and was very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after hitting the woodwork for the second game running.

Ont the other hand, Grealish’s performances have dipped in recent months and there is no doubt now that Green is now outperforming his fellow teammate in the attacking department.

In other Aston Villa news, Andre Green sent this passionate and emotional message to supporters after the win against Bristol City.
