Ben Davies: This is the major change to my game at Tottenham

By Dominic Toner

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has revealed he has become a lot more attack-minded since the change in formation.

The 23-year-old has been competing with Danny Rose for a starting position this season and the pair have both been used in the left wing-back role.

England international Rose is currently sidelined with a knee injury and that has allowed Davies a chance to impress.

He has featured in the last 12 consecutive games for the north London club and managed to adapt to playing in a more advanced role.

The Welshman has operated as a centre-back or a traditional left-back in the past, but now has the responsibility of operating further up the pitch on the left flank.

Davies has explained his new position is a lot more physically demanding, but is relishing the opportunity to play regular football.

“I’ve always said that defending is first and foremost for me but it’s a nice little change. It’s a lot of running,” Davies said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “You do see it a lot (the ball) and it’s hard work but it’s great and I certainly can’t complain.”

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has operated with a 3-4-3 formation for much of the season and that has meant his two wing-backs have pushed on forward.

Kyle Walker and Rose are regarded as the first-choice picks when available, while Kieran Trippier and Davies provide the cover.

They provide the width for the side and try to support the attacking trio of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.

Davies managed his first assist of the season in his last Premier League match during a win with Everton and there is certainly more pressure on him now to help out offensively.
