‘Better than Gyokeres’ – Arsenal fans up in arms after what their ex-player did vs London club

Arsenal supporters were left regretting their decision to let Eddie Nketiah leave in August 2024 after he netted in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Fulham on 7 December.

Adam Wharton was one of the standout players for Crystal Palace against Fulham as they picked up another set of three points on their travels.

Although, attention remains firmly on the soon to be out of contract manager with former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown exclusively telling Football Insider that Oliver Glasner is expected to quit Crystal Palace.

However, focusing on the present at Selhurst Park, fans would’ve been elated with the display of Nketiah against the Cottagers as Arsenal supporters were left feeling aggrieved after letting the striker leave last season.

Arsenal’s striker woes continue as former disappointments excel away from the Emirates

Nketiah left his boyhood club Arsenal for Crystal Palace back in August 2024 after several frustrating campaigns in north London.

The Englishman had consistently struggled to find regular minutes at the club, pushing him to leaving for Selhurst Park in search of more football.

Whilst the 26-year-old has been by no means a ruthless finisher during his time with the Eagles, the forward delivered against Fulham in what has become a familiar trend for the Gunners.

The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette have all left Arsenal in recent years to go on to hit new levels at their new clubs, calling into question whether Mikel Arteta is the right manager to get the best out of strikers in his tactical set-ups.

Big money summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has only managed to score six goals in 17 appearances for the north London outfit this season, despite bagging 52 goals in 49 matches for Sporting CP in 2024-25.

Similarly, the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have ultimately been abhorrent signings as Arsenal seem to be unable to find a quality marksman.

In the aftermath of Nketiah’s superb display against the Cottagers, Gunners fans were frustrated with their current selection of forwards, with one supporter saying: “Nketiah is a better striker than Gyokeres, but we’re not ready for that conversation yet.” with another adding: “We don’t have a striker better than Nketiah, it’s crazy.”

Arsenal in need of potent goalscorer or risk conceding Premier League title to other hungry clubs

The Gunners will be hoping Gyokeres can improve his below-par goalscoring numbers this season, after he recently returned from injury.

The Swede will need to start delivering quickly, especially after Arteta’s lead at the top of the table has now shrunk to just two points, following a shock 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 6 December.

Man City are now catching up with Arsenal, as well as the Villains breathing down their necks in third.

The north London outfit had seemed to be the clear favourites for the title after a sensational start to the season, but dropping points against both Villa and Chelsea in the last three games could prove to be pivotal come the end of the campaign.
