Betting latest: West Ham in contention to sign 12-goal forward from London club

By Danny Wright

West Ham are in the running to sign Brentford’s Jota, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

SkyBet have priced the Hammers at 7/1 to sign the wide forward from their London rivals after news outlet West London Sport reported that they were in the race for him with several other Premier League clubs.

Burnely are currently favourites (5/2) to snap up Jota this summer, with Newcastle also in contention (6/1).

Everton (8/1) and Swansea (10/1) are considered less likely that West Ham to land the 27-year-old, who could leave Griffin Park for free at the end of next season when his contract expires.

It is understood that Brentford rate Jota at £8million after he scored 12 goals and supplied five assists in 21 Championship appearances following his return from a loan spell at La Liga outfit Eibar.

The Spaniard has been on an 18-month long temporary spell in Spain before he was recalled early during the festive period.

He made just seven appearances for Eibar in the first half of the 2016/17 campaign, but had no such struggles with Brentford as he averaged more than a goal every other game in the Championship.

West London Sport reports that the Bees are eager to open fresh contract talks with Jota in the near future, but would rather let him go for free next year than sell him for anything less than their £8million valuation.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in pole position to land this wantaway centre-back.
