Betting latest: West Ham strong favourites to land playmaker from London rivals

By Danny Wright

West Ham are strong favourites to sign Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere this summer, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

SkyBet have Slaven Bilic’s side priced at 4/6 to make the 25-year-old a Hammer before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

Huddersfield (7/1) and Newcastle (10/1) are also in the running as well as Bournemouth (12/1) where he spent the entirety of last season on loan.

The Sun has previously reported that West Ham are prepared to break their club record transfer to steal Wilshere away from their London rivals and are plotting a staggering £30million bid.

The 34-times England international has spent his entire career with Arsenal and has only had two loan spells away from the North London club.

He spent some time with Bolton during the early part of his development but a move to Bournemouth last season showed that he wasn’t part of Arsene Wenger’s immediate first-team plans after a bout of serious injuries.

Wilshere remained match fit for most of his time at the Vitality Stadium until he suffered a fractured leg at Tottenham towards the end of the campaign.

He made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries, crafting two assists but didn’t have anywhere near the desired effect he had shown at Arsenal during the peak of his fitness.
