‘Big’ Tyler Adams verdict issued by pundit after journalist’s Leeds United update
Alan Hutton has claimed there will be “big pressure” on Tyler Adams to fill Kalvin Phillips’ shoes at Leeds United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League defender said Adams will have “huge shoes to fill” if he completes a move to Elland Road.
On Wednesday (6 July), journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Adams, 23, has completed a medical ahead of a move to Elland Road.
The midfielder is said to be joining Leeds from RB Leipzig for a fee of £20million including add-ons.
The USA international joined Leipzig in 2019 from the New York Red Bulls.
When asked if there would be pressure on the defensive midfielder to hit the ground running, Hutton told Football Insider: “There’s big pressure.
“Kalvin Phillips was one of the main cogs within that team. The fans loved him, he was a favourite and there was a lot of pressure on him to perform.
“Leeds were a better team when he was in there, we saw that when he was brought out that everything kind of fell away – the points per game, the tackles, passes forward. So huge shoes to fill.

“As a player you don’t really come into a new team and think that way – you just kind of think ‘I’ve got my own attributes and this is what I can give to the team’. You don’t worry about who was before you.
“So that’s the kind of mindset he has to have but of course everybody judges you against the previous player, it’s just part of football. That’s how it works so he’s going to have to be able to deal with that.“
