Bojan Miovski shines, 4/10 flops – Rangers player ratings vs Celtic

Rangers manager Russell Martin will remain under pressure at Ibrox after the Gers failed to beat rivals Celtic.

In a dominant first half from Rangers, John Souttar thought he had put the hosts in-front, only for his header to be ruled out for offside.

Rangers had no shots on target in the second half, in a match lacking much action in-front of goal.

Here are how the Rangers players fared in the first Glasgow derby of the season.

John Souttar immense as Rangers keep rare clean sheet

Jack Butland – 7

The quietist first half Butland has had this season, as Celtic failed to land a punch on the Rangers goal. More involved in the second half, and dealt with everything he faced well.

James Tavernier – 7

Whipped in a perfect free-kick which John Souttar headed home, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside by VAR. Was comfortable against Celtic’s new signing Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

John Souttar – 8

A brave header from Tavernier’s free-kick, but the centre-back went marginally early. A rock at the back for Rangers, dominating against Daizen Maeda.

Nasser Djiga – 7

A solid performance in his first taste of his derby. One moment of miscommunication with Butland, but otherwise performed well.

Jayden Meghoma – 6

Another debutant in this fixture who could not have had a more comfortable welcome to what is a fierce rivalry. Didn’t contribute much going forward though.

Bojan Miovksi impresses in flat attacking display

Mohammed Diomande – 7

Tenacious in the middle of the park and kept Rangers ticking. Had a good battle with Arne Engels and overstepped the mark once with a yellow card.

Conor Barron (Off for Joe Rothwell 82′) – 7

A potential injury concern when he was substituted, but Conor Barron impressed on his first start of the season.

Mikey Moore (Off for Oliver Antman 72′) – 5

Looked keen to make an impression, with plenty of energy down the right, but little end product.

Thelo Aasgaard (Off for Nedim Bajrami 76′) – 4

Ineffective against St Mirren, and was also not much involved here. Needs to improve.

Djeidi Gassama (Off for Findlay Curtis 82′) – 5

One of Rangers’ positives this season has been the performances of Dejeidi Gassama, but like Moore, he had no end product in attack.

Bojan Miovski (Off for Cyriel Dessers 72′) – 8

Starting his first game for Rangers since joining from Girona, the former Aberdeen striker had an early penalty shout turned away after a coming together with Liam Scales. Put himself about well in a promising first showing in a Rangers jersey.

Substitutes

Cyriel Dessers (On for Bojan Miovski 72′) – 6

Given no service in the time he was on the pitch.

Oliver Antman (On for Mikey Moore 72′) – 5

Did not change Rangers’ fortunes down the flank. Offered nothing.

Nedim Bajrami (On for Thelo Aasgaard 76′) – 5

Created nothing in the middle of the park in the time he was on the pitch.

Joe Rothwell (On for Connor Barron 82′) – 6

Stayed in-front of the back four and did the job he was brought on to do.

Findlay Curtis (On for Djeidi Gassama 82′) – 6

A late penalty shout when he went over in the penalty area under pressure from Maeda.
