‘Boring’ – Steve Thompson takes swipe at Celtic ahead of clash v Rangers
BBC pundit Steven Thompson has claimed that Celtic’s achievements in standing on the verge of a second successive domestic treble are not good for Scottish football.
Thompson, who had a brief spell at Rangers, made the claim in his column in the Herald. ahead of the Bhoys’ upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against the Ibrox side on Sunday.
“To anyone who doesn’t support Celtic, Brendan Rodgers’ side winning the cup and another treble is boring” he said.
“A consecutive clean sweep was predicted, expected even, and I just can’t see it not happening.”
The Hoops have already retained the Betfred Cup, and are one win away from clinching the league title, and with a win at Hampden Brendan Rodgers’ side would move one step closer to making history as the first Scottish side ever to win two consecutive domestic trebles.
Football Insider verdict
Naturally Hoops fans will vehemently disagree with Thompson’s comments, but for those who don’t support the Bhoys there must be a sense of dullness about the whole thing as the Hoops win yet another trophy. However, that isn’t the fault of the Hoops, as they just need to beat who is in front of them, and it is up to the other teams in Scottish football to up their game if they want to compete with the Hoops. There have always been teams that dominate football, and at this moment in time Celtic are doing it in Scotland, but the cycle will inevitably change and other teams will have their chance to shine.
