Kris Boyd: These four Rangers players are causing mayhem
By Richard Parks
Kris Boyd has hailed Rangers’ awesome front foursome in the Scottish Sun for causing “mayhem” in Graeme Murty’s increasingly free-flowing side.
The Glasgow giants have been transformed since the winter break, securing eight wins from nine matches, including six from seven Scottish Premiership fixtures.
Former Ibrox striker Boyd has been particularly impressed by the four main attackers in the side, as he pinpointed how January arrival Jamie Murphy has combined with Alfredo Morelos, Daniel Candeias and man-of-the-moment Josh Windass to form a quartet of genuine quality.
“The front four are causing all sorts of mayhem, while in Josh Windass they’ve a player in the form of his life,” said Boyd in the Scottish Sun.
“I said not long ago that Windass wasn’t scoring enough goals for me. Well, he’s certainly rammed those words back down my throat.
“He has everything going for him. Pace, power and work-rate matched by his team-mates. You can’t take anything away from him or the rest of the Rangers lads.
“While there are still issues defensively, Murty has ensured he has five or six people in any starting line-up who are capable of scoring goals.
“That’s something Rangers have been lacking for years.”
Football Insider verdict:
With 19 goals from their last five matches, the spotlight is on the Rangers attackers who are combining in a manner not see in the top flight for more than half a decade. Morelos has scored the goals as he demonstrates he can use his raw materials to consistently deliver the goods and Candeias is a willing runner and reliable crosser on the right flank. But it is Windass and Murphy who provide the stardust. Both have the class to unlock organised defences and they are increasingly demonstrating a capacity for thriving in the unforgiving Ibrox spotlight. Their run of form has almost certainly come too late to stop Celtic winning the title, but second place and the Scottish Cup would represent an excellent turnaround and a fine season after the troubled Pedro Caixinha reign.
In other Rangers news, the club are firmly in the running to sign a goal machine from north-west English high flyers.
