Brentford’s Yoane Wissa reacts to Antoni Milambo amid Newcastle pursuit

Newcastle United are pursuing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as Alexander Isak looks set to depart the club this summer.

Wissa is pushing for a move to St James’ Park and may potentially not play for Brentford again after the club turned down a bid from Newcastle for the player.

Brentford have already lost striker Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United as Keith Andrews takes charge of his first-ever managerial job after previously being set-piece coach for the Bees under Thomas Frank.

Newcastle and Eddie Howe though will likely need a replacement for Isak, who is not part of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

Brentford’s new signing posts update

Wissa was not part of the Brentford squad which faced Gil Vicente in their first pre-season friendly, but new midfielder Antoni Milambo did feature.

Milambo took to Instagram to post pictures from the match with the caption: “Training camp,” which was liked by Wissa.

The 20-year-old joined the club from Dutch side Feyenoord where he helped them to a third placed finish in the table last season.

Milambo also featured in the Champions League, netting three times in nine games as Feyenoord qualified to the knockout stages of the competition.

Newcastle could form exciting new trio

Football Insider Verdict

Brentford need to quickly resolve the situation with Wissa, but any movement may depend on Isak and whether a club moves for his services.

Newcastle will want up to £150million for the striker making the fee out of reach for many club’s.

Liverpool are the most likely to make a move with Luis Diaz now off to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a deal worth £65m.

With Callum Wilson gone following the expiry of his contract, Howe would need to move fast in the window with William Osula the only other senior striker available to him.

Wissa can play anywhere across the front three and his partnership with Mbeumo has showed he can also play in a two up-front.

That would give Howe flexibility in his forward line with Anthony Elanga, Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy also exciting options at his disposal.

Newcastle have also been linked with a shock swoop for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to further bolster their strike force.
