Steven Gerrard delivers verdict on Rangers pressure
Steven Gerrard has thrown down the gauntlet in his first press conference as Rangers boss.
The former Liverpool captain was appointed the Gers manager on a four-year deal, as announced on the club’s official website.
Gerrard didn’t pull any punches in his first press conference, and has shown that he is up for the massive challenge and pressure of becoming the Gers manager.
“Bring it on, I don’t mind under intense pressure, I’m up for the challenge” he said, when asked about being under pressure in Glasgow, as shown on Sky Sports News on Friday afternoon.
Gerrard was then asked if he had a message for the Gers support, he responded “let’s go”.
The words will give encouragement to Gers fans who are desperate for their club to mount a serious challenge to Celtic.
Football Insider verdict
Gerrard’s words were very bullish, and that is what fans will love to hear, that he is confident in his ability and is up for the job of managing one of the biggest teams in Britain. Of course, all we are hearing at the moment is just words, and it will be a different story when Gerrard is under pressure in his first competitive matches, but if he thrives under pressure, like he claims to do, then the job really shouldn’t hold any fears for him. It will be interesting to see what type of player Gerrard brings in and how much money he is given to spend by Gers supermo Dave King, but that is a question for another day, and it is quite a coup for Scottish football that the Gers have managed to persuade such a big name to come and manage them next season, Scottish football will be in the spotlight once again, and that can only be a good thing.
