Bruce Exclusive: Celtic have the next Kieran Tierney in their ranks
Alex Bruce has tipped Celtic left-back Greg Taylor to emulate Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, was full of praise for his former Kilmarnock teammate and challenged him to fill Tierney’s boots.
Taylor impressed during Celtic’s resounding opening day victory over Hamilton, setting up two goals as the Scottish champions cruised to a 5-1 success.
And Bruce believes Taylor will be looking to “grab the bull by the horns” and nail down his position in the Celtic side.
“He’s a good little player,” Bruce told Football Insider.
“I played with him at Kilmarnock. He’s got a nice left foot and is a modern day full-back, he likes to get forward and set up attacks.
“He’s got to look up at the likes of Kieran Tierney at Arsenal, similar type of player. That’s the benchmark where he wants to get to and try to fill his boots.
“I don’t believe they really filled his boots when he left last season, so I’m sure Greg will want to try and grab the bull by the horns and fill the gap Tierney did when he left for Arsenal.”
Despite a strong performance against Hamilton, Lennon could be forced to axe Taylor for Celtic’s visit to his old club Kilmarnock.
According to a report in GlasgowLive, he has picked up an ankle problem, which could bring Boli Bolingoli into the equation or force the Hoops manager into making some tactical changes.
Celtic are chasing a historic 10th consecutive league title this term and could be set to bolster their ranks.
Football Insider revealed on Friday that Albian Ajeti is expected to soon undergo a Celtic medical and complete a £5.5million loan-to-buy move from West Ham.
In other Celtic news, McAvennie has told Football Insider departures will be needed before if “wonderful” midfielder is to be signed from Premier League side.
