Sources: £9m star heading for Celtic medical after improved offer accepted

Albian Ajeti is expected to soon undergo a Celtic medical and complete a £5.5million loan-to-buy move from West Ham.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Ajeti is in advanced talks to join the Parkhead outfit after he accepted an improved contract offer.

The breakthrough in discussions is set to be enough to push through a deal that had stalled earlier in the week when the striker was unconvinced about swapping the Premier League for Scotland.

Ajeti’s doubts have now been all but assuaged and he is in line to become their second summer signing.

This site first revealed yesterday Celtic were closing in on Ajeti after submitting a new loan-to-buy offer to push the deal over the finish line.

This would see the move become permanent after a low number of stipulated matches, potentially just 10.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has personally made clear his desire to recruit Ajeti on a deal that raises fresh doubts over the future of Leigh Griffiths following his pre-season misdemeanours.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, Hoops chiefs have offered the front man a higher wage if the initial loan move is then converted into a permanent switch.

Celtic will pay £5.5m to West Ham if his initial loan becomes a permanent transfer.

It comes just a year after Ajeti moved to the Londoners from Basel for £8.55m.

The 10-times Switzerland international did not start a single Premier League match in his debut campaign and most of his 12 West Ham appearances have come as a substitute.

But he was prolific in his homeland, where he scored 43 times in 96 matches for Basel.
