Bruno Guimaraes: ‘I would be very concerned if I was a Newcastle United fan’ – pundit

Newcastle United fans should be “very concerned” about Bruno Guimaraes’ long-term future at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested the Magpies could be forced to sell the midfield superstar amid their Financial Fair Play concerns.

Eddie Howe’s side are expected to consider offers for their first-team stars due to FFP constraints at St James’ Park amid fears of sanctions from the Premier League akin to Everton’s 10-point deduction in November.

The Brazilian has a £100million release clause in his contract on Tyneside, with Football Insider revealing (2 February) that Newcastle are likely to sanction a mega-money deal this summer.

Has Bruno Guimaraes already decided to leave Newcastle?

Hutton claimed Newcastle must keep their star players if they want to progress, but admitted he understands fans’ concerns that he could be sacrificed.

“I would be very concerned if I was a Newcastle fan,” he told Football Insider.

“We’ve spoken about the situation a lot of clubs have found themselves in terms of Financial Fair Play in recent weeks.

“They could be forced to sell and it could be someone like Bruno Guimaraes, who has been a standout for Newcastle.

“But to get to the next level, you can’t be selling your star players.

“It was massive to keep hold of him in January with all the rumours that were circulating.

“Newcastle need to add players, not lose them.

“But as a fan, you will always have it in the back of your mind that someone could test the club’s resolve.”
