Bruno Guimaraes: Newcastle new boy tipped for instant impact after what pundit saw this week

Bruno Guimaraes will have an instant impact at Newcastle United after impressing for Brazil this week.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ “exciting” new signing.

Guimaraes, 24, joined Newcastle on 30 January, becoming their third signing of the winter window.

The Brazilian has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Newcastle after they paid Lyon a £33million fee.

He provided an assist off the bench as Brazil beat Paraguay 4-0 on Tuesday (1 February) and, as a result, McAvennie claims he can have an immediate impact at Newcastle.

“Well he played for Brazil this week and got himself an assist, he looked good from what I saw, so he’s not going to be bad, is he?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It also sets him up to come straight in and impress, he’s not been sitting around doing nothing.

“He’s got to be one of the most expensive players Newcastle have signed so the club will be after a return.

“He’s the only one who came in who doesn’t have Premier League experience.

“But he’s a Brazil international, he clearly has a bit about him. His influence will be massive, I’m sure.

“He’s the one those players will look to before a game or maybe if Newcastle are losing at half-time.

“A player with that reputation can cause everyone to up their game. It’s an exciting one.

“I’m interested to see how he does actually. I think he can be the difference-maker for Newcastle.”

Newcastle are next in action against Everton on Tuesday (8 February).

Guimaraes is yet to train with his new teammates.
