Bruno Guimaraes reacts to Newcastle’s Dan Burn announcement

Bruno Guimaraes reacted to an announcement from Newcastle on social media concerning teammate Dan Burn.

The former Lyon man immortalised himself in Magpie history earlier this season when he captained England target Eddie Howe‘s side to their first major trophy in 70 years.

The Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool was an incredible achievement in its own right, and Newcastle have the opportunity to couple the silverware with Champions League qualification on Sunday, 25 May.

A win against Everton would guarantee the Magpies their place in UEFA’s most prestigious competition and would significantly boost the club’s finances.

Having had a major PSR scare last summer, Newcastle have behaved cautiously in recent transfer windows, but with a return to the Champions League now in sight, Howe’s side are already making moves this summer.

Newcastle announce Dan Burn contract extension

Ahead of their key clash with Everton, Newcastle took to Instagram to announce that Burn’s contract had been extended.

In their post, which featured a graphic containing the defender, the club captioned the news: “BIG Dan Burn news”.

Arsenal transfer target Guimaraes showed his support for Burn, who became a cult-hero in the North East with his headed goal in Newcastle’s cup final win, by liking the post.

Football Insider Verdict

Several of the Magpies’ stars have been linked with a departure from St James’ Park this summer, including Nick Pope, Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Anthony Gordon.

However, the most prominent potential departure is that of Liverpool target Alexander Isak.

A lack of good striking options available, combined with the former Borussia Dortmund man’s stellar season, has led to him becoming one of the most in-demand players on the continent.

But should Newcastle win against Everton, Howe’s side will be in a strong position to convince the striker to remain in the North East for the foreseeable future.

Having already claimed silverware this season, the club can now commit to building the first XI around Isak and Guimaraes, and make it more difficult for their rivals to try and poach their star players.
