Bruno Guimaraes ‘won’t start for Arsenal’ after source’s reveal – pundit

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes would not be able to displace the current Arsenal midfield.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that Guimaraes, 26, is not better than the Gunners’ current midfield including Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider (29 April) that Arsenal and Man City are big admirers Magpies’ midfielder, who has a £100million release clause valid until late June.

The Brazilian has had a stellar campaign for Eddie Howe’s side having notched five goals and eight assists in all competitions – most recently a goal in their 5-1 thrashing of now-relegated Sheffield United on Saturday (27 April).

Arsenal midfield too strong for Bruno Guimarares – McAvennie

However, McAvennie claimed that Guimaraes would struggle to break into the Gunners’ title-chasing starting XI and was adamant that he would have a strong chance of playing European football if he stayed at St James’ Park.

“There’s a lot of debate about Bruno and I think he’s a good player,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s been a lot of conjecture about how good he actually is, but I think he’s decent.

“He’s one of those players that gets everywhere and he does a wonderful job.

“He’s a team man and his teammates wouldn’t be as good without him.

“It would be strange to sell him.

“I get he might want a move to Arsenal, but who are they going to remove from the team?

“There’s Rice, Odegaard and others in there who he wouldn’t replace – he wouldn’t start.

“He might want to challenge for Europe, but Newcastle are doing that now – quicker than expected.

“They’ll be up there next season, so he should stay at Newcastle.”
