Caixinha delivers verdict on Rangers signing Candeias

By Derek Smithson

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has heaped huge praise on the club’s latest signing Daniel Candeias and believes he will be a great addition to the side.

The 29-year-old completed a move to the Gers on Sunday and ends his three-year association with Portuguese giants Benfica.

He is the latest Portuguese player to join the Scottish club this summer as Caixinha’s summer overhaul picks up speed.

Candeias is recognised as a right winger and will hope to help Rangers’ attacking threat next season.

Caixinha, who previously worked with Candeias in Portugal at Nacional, feels that he will strengthen his side and recognised his high work-rate in the wide areas.

“Daniel is a fantastic guy and a great player,” Caxinha said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “He is someone who I had the pleasure of working with four or five years ago, and he is a winger who can perform on the right and on the left.

“He is also very skilful on the set-pieces like corners and wide free-kicks, and he is someone who really sacrifices to help the team all the time, both in attack and defence, and I believe he is going to help us to have strong play particularly in the wide areas.”

Candeias was unable to cement a starting position at Benfica and spent a number of spell out on loan, including at top-flight Turkish club Alanyaspor last season.

The wide man made 30 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and supplying four assists in return.

He is the fifth player to arrive at Rangers already and follows additions Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves, Fabio Cadroso and Dalcio through the door.

The Gers will be looking to build upon their third-placed league finish last year and are bolstering their squad to help their chances.
