Caixinha: I want to be a father figure to this Rangers ace
By Matt Farr
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha believes he can act as a father figure to his latest new signing Alfredo Morelos.
The Scottish club announced on their official Twitter account and club website on Monday that the 20-year-old striker had put pen-to-paper on a three-year-deal.
But a move to Rangers becomes only the second venture in Europe for the inexperienced young goalscorer, who signs from Finnish-giants HJK Helsinki.
A Colombia Under-20 international, Morelos’ lack of previous experience in European competitions means he will need time to adjust to his new environment.
However, Caixinha insists that he can provide a father-like relationship for his latest new recruit, in an attempt to help him settle in at Ibrox.
Following the confirmed deal for the club, the Portuguese delivered his verdict on the transfer when speaking to the club’s official website:
“I believe he speaks good English, but if not, then as I can speak Spanish I can be that father figure which will be important for him to get the confidence in a new and demanding place, and in a huge and demanding club like Rangers.
“He is a player who can score goals, and someone like that is always amazing to have in your squad.”
Morelos scored an impressive 20 goals from 25 appearances in all competitions for HJK Helsinki last season, and becomes Pedro Caixinha’s sixth summer signing.
Caixinha has already added a mixture of experience and trusted talent to his ranks in Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias ahead of the new season.
The club did not confirm the exact transfer spent to bring Morelos to Ibrox, but the Scottish Sun had earlier claimed that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs over a £1million fee.
Morelos had been recommended to manager Caixinha by his assistant manager Jonatan Johansson, who has put his ties with, and knowledge of his home nation to good use with their latest new recruit.
