Campbell: Arsenal exit looming for Lacazette as talks open to land replacement
Kevin Campbell has claimed Alexandre Lacazette’s time at Arsenal would be over if Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva was signed this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton forward said the club “cannot afford to be paying” the 30-year-old’s “huge wages” if he is not playing regularly.
The Transfer Window Podcast claimed on 18 June that Arsenal have ‘opened talks’ over a £34million deal for Andre Silva.
The Portugal striker, who finished second top goalscorer in the Bundesliga last season, has two years remaining on his contract in Germany.
Lacazette has just 12 months remaining on his contract in north London and the Gunners may choose to cash in now rather than risk losing him on a free next year.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Silva’s arrival would effect Lacazette’s future, Campbell said:
“If Silva came in, it could possibly mark the end for Lacazette.

“It is so important that the squad is rebuilt this summer but there needs to be a legacy plan. There needs to be a transition period where he slowly integrate new players with the more senior players at Arsenal and Lacazette falls into that category.
“If Andre Silva does come though, that is the end of Lacazette in my eyes because you cannot afford to be paying huge wages for a player that is barely playing.”
In other news, Arsenal open international defender exit talks and multiple clubs are in contact over a summer deal that is expected to happen.
