Campbell can’t believe Maitland-Niles meltdown after Sky’s Arsenal update
Kevin Campbell can’t believe Ainsley Maitland-Niles used Instagram to push for a last-gasp Arsenal transfer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker said the 24-year-old should have spoke “behind closed doors” to “the people who matter” about his future rather than post on social media.
Maitland-Niles took to Instagram on Monday to voice his disgruntlement at his situation at the Emirates to try and force an exit before the deadline.
Sky Sports revealed later that day Everton were in talks with Arsenal over a loan deal for the versatile midfielder but the Toffees’ offer was not deemed suitable.
Mikel Arteta has since held clear-the-air talks with Maitland-Niles and the player is now expected to compete for a place at right-back until at least January.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the meltdown, Campbell said: “There has been a lot of misdirection on this one.
“The player is frustrated, I get that but to come out and speak on social media… Whoever told him to do that has advised him badly.
“These sorts of things should be done behind closed doors. Speak to the people who matter.

“Yes, he wants to play but for there to be movement it has to suit Arsenal football club. Arsenal have been criticised in the past for letting players go for nothing. The player is not going to like it but he is under contract.
“I’ve heard from sources there has been clear the air talks and everything is hunky dory again. We will meed to watch this space and see if he knuckles down.”
