Campbell in awe of Perraud and insists he ‘could be a brilliant signing for Leeds’
Kevin Campbell has claimed Romain Perraud would be a “brilliant signing” for Leeds United as he has proven he can perform under pressure.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton forward is adamant the 23-year-old will have “ticked all of the boxes” for Whites’ scouts in the last year with his “standout” performances for a relegation-threatened Stade Brest side.
Perraud was named in France Football’s Ligue 1 team of the season this week and was the only player outside of the division’s top seven teams to do so.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Leeds are expecting to seal a deal for the French left-back this summer after “encouraging talks”.
A former France youth international, Perraud is under contract at Stade Brest until June 2025, having put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension earlier this year.
Leeds are prioritising the signing of a new left-back in the upcoming transfer window with Ezgjan Alioski expected to depart at the expiration of his contract next month.
When asked for his assessment of Brest’s Perraud, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Leeds will have definitely watched a lot of him over the past 12 months or so.
“They will have watched him under pressure every week and you can learn a lot about a player when he is playing under pressure. Brest were fighting for their lives and he was one of the players who clearly stepped up for them.
“I am sure he ticked all of the boxes for scouts because they like to see players performing under pressure. They want to see players stand out in sides that are not the best in the league. He has done well even though the team has struggled.
“He could be a brilliant signing for Leeds.”
