Career of one Tottenham player in tatters: Three things we learned from FA Cup win v Swansea

2. Fernando Llorente’s career is done

Fernando Llorente’s Tottenham career is in tatters after he was only named on the bench for the FA Cup quarter-final against Swansea on Saturday lunchtime.

With Kane out injured, the 33-year-old striker would have been forgiven for thinking he would make the starting XI on Saturday, especially as he’s scored three goals in five FA Cup games this season.

Instead, Heung-Min Son led the line and it looks like he’ll be the man Pochettino turns to with Kane on the sidelines.

If Llorente isn’t going to be called on when it’s the cup and when the team’s main striker is out, when will he play?

Today’s decision is more of a slap in the face though, as Llorente joined from Swansea in the summer and so would know more about the team than anyone else.

It seems an odd decision but it shows that Pochettino is taking the FA Cup seriously, which represents a backtracking from earlier in the season when he said Tottenham wanted to win a major, like the Premier League or the Champions League.

That’s good for everyone, apart from Llorente, who must know he’s done in the summer.
