Carney Chukwuemeka: Significant update on Chelsea exit today – Insider

Chelsea star Carney Chukwuemeka is attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and in Europe ahead of the January transfer window.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that clubs have been keeping a close eye on his progress at Stamford Bridge.

However, Premier League sides have raised concerns about the 21-year-old’s experience at the top level given his lack of game time since leaving Aston Villa.

Chukwuemeka has made just 37 Premier League appearances in his career, just eight of which came from the start, and Brown has claimed he needs a loan move to build more experience.

This season, he has played just 63 minutes of football across four appearances in all competitions, leading to his potential availability in January.

Brown also revealed that European clubs have expressed an interest in making a move in January and could rival English sides for his signature.

Football Insider revealed on 6 December that Celtic are set to join the race for his signature, but would need Chelsea to contribute a percentage of his wages.

Chukwuemeka moved to Chelsea for £20million as a highly-rated 18-year-old in 2022, but has made just 31 appearances for the Blues who are willing to see him leave less than three years into his six-year deal.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that any deal will depend on whether clubs think he is of the required level.

There is definitely interest in January, yes,” he told Football Insider.

“But I’m told there are doubts among Premier League sides about whether he could make a significant impact given his lack of experience at the top level.

“That’s the thing with a loan move, which this would likely be in January, clubs want immediate impact.

“These teams have been tracking his progress and will have an idea about his current level.

“He didn’t cement himself in Aston Villa’s team, and hasn’t done in Chelsea’s team, but the only way to build that experience is if teams trust him to step up.

“He may be better suited going to Europe where I’ve heard there is some interest.

“It all depends on whether these clubs are willing to take a gamble on him being good enough at the moment to play regular football at the top level.

“There’s no doubt he’s got a lot of potential, but he’s hardly played since leaving Villa.”
