Celtic 26-year-old fires shots at Rangers fans, has this warning message

By Amir Mir

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has fired shots at Rangers fans for celebrating the Old Firm draw last Sunday like “they had won the league”.

The 26-year-old warned the Gers that his team will be “even more determined” to get back on track when the duo meet at Hampden on April 23.

Both sides will be contesting for a place in the final of the Scottish League Cup with new Ibrox chief Pedro Caixinha set to taste his first Glasgow derby.

He was in the stands for the draw at Parkhead with defender Clint Hill snatching a late equaliser to the delight of the away fans.

Nonetheless, the manner in which the away team celebrated didn’t please Griffiths who came off the bench during the match and should have been awarded a penalty late on.

“There will be a lot of hype again now,” Griffiths told the Evening Times. “Rangers fans will all get a bit excited now, thinking that they can come and do exactly the same to us in the semi-final as they did last season

“You saw the Rangers fans after the game [on Sunday] cheering as though they had won the league. They would have snapped anyone’s hand for a point before they came here. It just makes us all the more determined that we will try and get our focus back and keep moving towards the title and see where we are next month when we play at Hampden.”

Last season, then-Rangers boss Mark Warburton guided his Championship team to an impressive penalty shoot-out victory against Celtic at this very stage of the competition.

The Bhoys were then managed by Rony Delia who has since left his post at Parkhead and been replaced by Brendan Rodgers.

The Northen Irishman has guided the club to an impressive three wins out of four matches against their Glasgow rivals, including a 5-1 thumping in September.

Furthermore, it has also helped them open up a 33 point lead on their rivals as they are on course to lift the SPL title in record fashion.
