Leigh Griffiths shares what has been frustrating at Celtic

By Harvey Byrne

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has shared that being injured has frustrated him after it also sparked rumours of there being a rift with manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops 26-year-old made his first league appearance for the club since January on Saturday after coming on in the last 18 minutes of the 2-0 victory over Hamilton Academical.

With star striker Moussa Dembele’s addition in the summer, Griffiths’ playing time has been limited at the Scottish giants.

However, he insists it is great to be back within the team and that there is no rift, he is just lacking full match fitness.

“Being injured is so frustrating,” told Griffiths to Celtic TV, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Everyone has been talking about if there is a rift between the gaffer and me after what he said, but it is great to be back on the pitch, back amongst the boys and in the match-day squad.

“Earlier in the season the failed attacks would probably have come off but I am just lacking a bit of match fitness just now.

“But hopefully in the coming weeks I will get more and more game time and hopefully I am back amongst the goals.”

Griffiths has still played in 28 matches for Celtic in all competitions this season, bringing a return of 13 goals and eight assists.

However, it is a severe drop from the last campaign which saw him play 51 times with a stunning return of 40 goals.

The Scotland international will now be aiming to return to full fitness as soon as possible and help Rodgers’ side complete the season unbeaten.

The Hoops’ next match sees them take on Inverness on Wednesday and Griffiths could see more pitch time due to the busy fixture schedule.
