Celtic backed to sign Daniel Amartey amid ‘£20m’ claim – expert

Daniel Amartey is the exact kind of player Brendan Rodgers wants to bring to Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie backed the Celts to sell on Amartey for £20million if they can get him for free.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month after joining Leicester City back in 2016.

According to TeamTalk (19 June), new Hoops boss, and former Foxes boss, Rodgers is strongly considering a move for Amartey this summer.

The Ghana international can play in defence or midfield and worked with Rodgers during his spell at the King Power Stadium and Celtic are believed to be ready to contact his agent.

McAvennie said the deal would be a win-win for both the club and Amartey.

That is the kind of player that Brendan is going to want,” he told Football Insider.

The Premier League is a fierce league, it is the best league in the world and it is a lot harder to make it down there than people think it is.

He might not be getting in the Leicester team but he could come to Scotland and be a revelation.

They can get him for nothing and if he does well they will sell him for £20m, that has been the blueprint of Celtic for years. He needs game time and he will get it at Celtic.

Amartey made just 20 Premier League appearances for the Foxes in the 2022-23 season.

He was in the starting lineup for 18 of those outings but failed to register a goal contribution.
