Dedryck Boyata hails Celtic teamwork in victory over St. Johnstone

Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata has declared that Wednesday was a great day thanks to his side’s 1-0 win over St. Johnstone put them 22 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Boyata scored the only goal in the win at Celtic Park but deflected attention away from him to point out the victory was a hugeteam effort.

“It was a good day for the whole team and for myself as well,” told Boyata to Celtic’s official Twitter account

“I’ve come from far and I am happy that I’ve been playing this week. I scored the goal today but it was collective work.”

The 26-year-old has missed out on a lot of football this season due to a thigh injury.

Wednesday’s game was only his second league game of the season, his other appearance coming in another 1-0 win against Kilmarnock.

Boyata was a key figure in last season’s title-winning side as he made 26 league appearances, scoring four times.

However, due to injury problems and Celtic’s incredible league form this season, he has found it hard to fit into Brendan Rogers’ first team this season.

The former Manchester City player was given a chance back in the starting 11 in the 3-0 win against Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday and Rogers was happy enough to keep him in the squad.

Celtic are yet to concede with Boyata on the pitch this season.
