Celtic hope to seal deal for assist king in the next 48 hours after making improved bid – report

Celtic are hoping to seal a deal for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes in the next 48 hours after making an improved bid, according to a report.

The Express has claimed that the Glasgow giants have made an improved £1.3million plus Ryan Christie offer to land the 29-year-old.

It is detailed that the potential deal will see Hoops youngster Christie return to Pittodrie on a season-long loan after moving there temporarily in January.

It is also understood that Hayes, who has been away with the Republic of Ireland squad on international duty is ready to fly back and finalise his move to Celtic.

The Hoops have been heavily linked with the right-winger since the season’s end with manager Brendan Rodgers a fan of the player he once worked with at Reading.

Hayes was one of the standout stars for Derek McInnes’ team which finished in second place in the last campaign.

He showed his creativity with an impressive return of 24 assists and 11 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions and Rodgers may now see him as the ideal replacement for Patrick Roberts, who is returning to Manchester City after the end of his loan deal.

Football Insider verdict:

As has been said on plenty of occasions. Hayes is a talented player in Scotland, but he is not the one that will help Celtic progress in Europe. Yes, he will help the Hoops establish their dominance over the rest of Scottish football, but this is something Rodgers’ side already achieved in the last campaign. If the Northern Irishman now wants to push his team further then he must look for bigger and better names than those of Hayes despite his attacking talents.
