Celtic mainstay lashes out at critics in bold admission over treble-winning campaign

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor believes that the Hoops are having a good season even though critics have rounded on some recent performances.
The mainstay of the side has boldly admitted that the side are finding it difficult to live up to the standards of last season – where they completed an unbeaten domestic treble – but ahead of two huge cup matches McGregor has hit out at the team’s critics.
“This season we have got a trophy, we are eight points clear, we are in the Europa League after Christmas. If you take that on its own then it’s a great season as well,” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“It’s impossible to do what we did last season again – an unbeaten treble. It was a perfect season. If you disregard that and look at this season on its own then it has still been a great season.”
The Bhoys are clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, and have retained the Betfred Cup following a 2-0 win over Motherwell but performances haven’t been as consistent as they were last season, with performances against Hearts, Rangers, and Kilmarnock coming in for plenty of criticism.
The Hoops are aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock when they take on Partick Thistle in the last sixteen of the Scottish Cup.
They then take on Zenit in the last 32 of the Europa League at Celtic Park, as the Hoops return to European football after Christmas for the first time in thee years.
McGregor will be hoping to return to the side in the cup double header after being left out of the team in the recent matches against Hearts and Kilmarnock.
