Reported Celtic pursuit of highly-rated hot shot destined for failure after previous flops
COMMENT
Celtic have been linked with a loan move for highly-rated Liverpool teenager Rhian Brewster, but the Hoops should think long and hard before sealing the move for the player.
The Herald are reporting that the clubs are in talks about the 18-year-old moving to Glasgow for a year, but if does sign it shows that the Hoops are not learning their lessons from previous signings.
Very few of the loan signings made by the Hoops in recent seasons have been an unqualified success, perhaps only the first spell of Patrick Roberts – injury has ruined his second spell – and Odsonne Edouard.
Otherwise it has mostly been a case of ‘miss’ rather than ‘hit’, with Charly Musonda the most obvious example.
The Belgian arrived at the Hoops in January in a blaze of publicity and has featured rarely ever since – and he is the latest in a long line of Hoops flops.
Fans have to ask themselves how much is it going to benefit the club – and the player – to have an 18-year-old at Parkhead on loan for a season, where there is a great chance that he will not feature in the starting line-up most weeks.
The move seems more about getting Brewster ready to play for Liverpool in a few years time rather than the Hoops, and any move for the player seems like a huge gamble which is destined for failure.
