Celtic senior man delivers verdict on long term future, fans will be delighted
By Matt Farr
Celtic first-teamer Craig Gordon has revealed he has no intention of hanging up his boots any time soon.
The 34-year-old has been a key figure in Celtic’s quest for domestic glory this season, and has hinted that he intends to continue long into the future.
He had earlier agreed a new long-term contract with the club, putting pen-to-paper on a new three-year-deal that should see him stay at the club until 2020.
As quoted by Celtic’s official club Twitter account, when asked by a fan as to his retirement plans, Gordon responded:
“No idea. I don’t plan on retiring any time soon.”
Gordon’s response will delight fans, who have been thrilled with his displays over the course of the season.
The Scotland veteran has kept 17 clean sheets from 25 league appearances this term, as Celtic have cruised to a 25-point lead over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Celtic are also unbeaten in domestic competitions this season, winning all but two of their matches – drawing against Inverness and most recently, Rangers.
They could win the title this weekend if they beat Dundee on Sunday, provided Hamilton pull off an unlikely victory over Aberdeen a day earlier.
But despite quashing talk of him retiring, Gordon has also been strongly linked with a move away from the club, after reported interest in his services from Premier League giants Chelsea.
The Blues were keen to bring him to the club during the January transfer window as a replacement for deputy stopper Asmir Begovic, who was drawing interest from Bournemouth.
In other Celtic transfer news, Everton are plotting a sensational double-swoop for this star Hoops duo.
