Celtic have seven-figure bid accepted for assist king – report

By Harvey Byrne

Celtic have had a bid “in excess of £1million” accepted by Aderdeen for attacker Jonny Hayes, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have reported in their transfer blog (Wednesday 4.10pm) that the Hoops have reached an agreement with the Dons for the 29-year-old.

It is detailed that English Championship trio Nottingham Forest, Birmingham and Cardiff were also looking at the right-winger.

However, Celtic now look to be ahead in the race for the player who Brendan Rodgers had previously worked with while at Reading.

The Hoops have been heavily linked with Hayes since the season’s finish and on Tuesday the  Express claimed that they wanted to seal a deal in the next 48 hours.

Now, it would seem like they are close to their goal after agreeing a fee with Aberdeen.

Hayes was a standout star for the Premiership runners-up last season, returning a fine 11 goals and 24 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.

But, the Aberdeen team has since been dismantled after an impressive campaign with Ryan Jack moving the Rangers, while manager Derek McInnes has been granted permission to speak to English Championship club Sunderland.

Hayes could now be the next one to go through the Pittodrie doors.

Football Insider verdict:

Hayes is a very talented player in Scotland and should help Celtic continue their dominance over the rest in the Premiership. However, there will constantly be questions on whether he is the player that will be able to help them push on in the Champions League. Manager Rodgers has already achieved all there is to domestically with the Hoops and his next target should be to make ground in Europe. However, it is not certain that Hayes is the type of player who will be able to help them do so.
