Celtic make definitive decision over record breaking swoop for hot shot striker – report

Celtic are not willing to consider offers under £25million for star striker Moussa Dembele after claims that Brighton had agreed an £18million deal for the 21-year-old, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim on their website that the Hoops are reluctant to see their hot shot striker, who has netted 40 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions, depart for less than the eight-figure price tag they have placed on his head.

It is said that reports claimed that Brighton had agreed a record breaking £18million deal for the 21-year-old, but the Daily Mail’s sources at both clubs have rubbished the suggestions.

Instead, it is said that the Seagulls will have to smash their transfer record, currently standing at £16million, to secure his signing, but that Chris Hughton and his side will look to work on a deal closer to £20million for the striker who has netted eight times this season.

Football Insider verdict

Celtic know that Dembele is one of the hottest prospects in world football after his impressing attacking exploits in Scotland, and they are right to be looking for the highest possible fee. Brighton appear to have tried to jump the gun and poach the youngster before other clubs make their move, but this could be the start of a bidding war. There are likely to be many top flight clubs eyeing up his signature and for many, £25million will be well within budget. If teams are really keen, then the price will just keep rising, and the loss of a star attacker will be offset by a healthy financial boost for Celtic.
