‘Celtic to ban outlet for 6 more months over Brendan Rodgers exit speculation’
Celtic have been tipped to issue a further ban on PLZ Soccer following a conversation over Brendan Rodgers’ future as Hoops boss.
The Scottish outlet, and BBC Scotland, were banned from Parkhead for the manager’s unveiling in June 2023, returning to the club for his second spell after departing for Leicester City in 2019.
This came after comments from Tom English and Peter Martin on social media about Rodgers, seeing the two outlets left off the list of attendees for a huge piece of news emerging from Celtic Park.
Despite three seasons in the Premier League with the Foxes, the 52-year-old returned north of the border, but not all fans were supportive of the appointment following his heartbreaking exit six years ago.
Fast-forward to the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Rodgers has led the team to another Scottish Premiership campaign title while also impressing in the Champions League, nearly reaching the round of 16.
Ally McCoist suggested to Football Insider that Rodgers could seek a Celtic exit due to very little competition from their Old Firm rivals, and speculation over the manager’s future is back in the conversation.

Brendan Rodgers questions asked amid Celtic exit speculation
Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show (19 May), Alison McConnell said: “His contract runs out next year [June 2026], so I’m just wondering if there’ll be an extension or just one last season. I think he’ll just do next season, and it’ll bring a natural end to his deal.”
Martin chuckled: “As long as he doesn’t declare his love for the club… Just has to part on half-decent terms this time around,” to which pundit Tam McManus joked, “That’s us banned for another six months then?”
Martin replied: “That’s six months on to five years, probably, the way things are going. Nevertheless, we have offered great balance on the show, which doesn’t always get a mention.”
Celtic boss needs backing from the board ahead of 2025/26 campaign
Football Insider verdict
It remains to be seen how long Rodgers’ second spell will last, but after the frustration of selling Kyogo Furuhashi and not signing a replacement, the board must show support for their manager this summer.
While the Hoops sailed to the Scottish Premiership title against Rangers, it is a run in Europe that everyone at Celtic Park is longing for, and nearly happened before a gut-wrenching Bayern Munich goal.
Manager | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Win % |
Brendan Rodgers | 106 | 75 | 16 | 15 | 70.8 |
Rodgers’ side were moments from taking the Bundesliga champions to extra time in the round of 32, only for Alphonso Davies to break hearts with an equaliser two minutes into added time.
However, it just showed what the Hoops are capable of if the club can get the recruitment right for the manager, possibly needing to replace both Adam Idah and Arne Engels with new stars.
Daizen Maeda could field interest for a Celtic exit this summer, and if a move comes to fruition, it will be important for the Hoops to reinvest even further before the 2025/26 season kicks off.
