Celtic transfer window verdict: Good additions made but there is huge imbalance issue
COMMENT
Looking at Celtic’s squad after the closure of the January transfer window, there are both good and bad aspects.
The good is that more additions to the squad have been made, and no player has been sold.
Chelsea loanee Charley Musonda should provide plenty of creativity and excitement, whilst Brendan Rodgers will have been delighted to finally sign Dundee’s Jack Hendry.
After lots of speculation, star striker Moussa Dembele didn’t leave and will remain in Glasgow until the end of the season, which can only be a good thing.
The bad is that some areas of the squad still seem unbalanced.
It seems very odd that no other left-back was signed to provide cover for Kieran Tierney. If the player succumbs to an injury – which is always possible with his style of play – the Hoops have no other genuine left-back in the squad to take his place.
The situation is also quite odd at right-back, where it would have made sense to sell or loan Cristian Gamboa, who hasn’t featured since October and needs regular football before the World Cup.
All in all the window has been fairly successful for the Scottish champions, but they still have issues to address and will hopefully rectify the situations in the summer.
