Championship club set to pounce on Everton defender – report
By Abigail Withey
Nottingham Forest have their eye on Everton defender Brendan Galloway, according to a report.
The Nottingham Post have revealed that the 21-year-old Toffee is the latest player to be linked with a move to the Championship club.
The newspaper claim that Forest manager Mark Warburton is keen on the defender after the club fell close to relegation during the 2016/17 season.
Warburton’s squad finished near the bottom of the Championship table in a disappointing 21st position.
Galloway joined Everton from MK Dons in 2014 and has had a difficult time finding his feet with the Merseyside club.
The England Under-21 defender has made a total of 21 appearances with the first team, while playing in a further 24 games with the Under-23 squad.
The full-back appeared more comfortable when playing with the development squad as the defender managed to net three goals and provide a single assist.
Galloway spent a majority of the 2016/17 season on loan with West Brom, but made just five appearances for Albion before he was shipped back to Goodison Park in April.
Football Insider verdict:
For Everton, offloading the England Under-21 defender would allow Ronald Koeman to focus on a more experienced squad for the club’s next campaign. The move to Nottingham Forest would be a sensible move for the young defender too as the left-back needs the opportunity to develop, and it’s unlikely that Koeman will be prepared to nurture his talents as the Toffees aim to improve their chances in the Premier League. Forest toyed with relegation last season which will have kicked the squad into action and will allow a space for Galloway to grow within the squad. With guaranteed playing time for the 21-year-old, and a long-term solution for Forest, the signing could be a successful marriage on both parts.
In other Everton transfer news, the Toffees have been handed a emphatic decision in the pursuit of 22-year-old attacker.
